Windstream expands metro fiber network in Cleveland

January 25, 2017

CLEVELAND, Jan. 25, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Windstream (NASDAQ:WIN), a leading provider of advanced network communications, today announced a major expansion of its advanced metro fiber network in Cleveland. Windstream's expansion will provide the area's growing business community with world-class fiber and fixed-wireless infrastructure that connects even more local data centers and commercial buildings with Windstream's high-speed, highly available nationwide fiber network.

"Our expansion in Cleveland is part of an ongoing initiative to upgrade our high-speed fiber network infrastructure, including both our long-haul network nationwide and our metro fiber networks in specific markets," said Chris Nein, regional president for Windstream. "This ambitious project will result in a new level of connectivity and network stability for businesses in Cleveland, including in the Central Business District, Berea and Beachwood areas. We are proud to support the city's business community in this important way."

The Windstream expansion increases both the footprint of the company's network and the services that are available to local customers - including SD-WAN, Wavelengths, Cloud Connectivity, Ethernet networking, Unified Communications, managed network security and cloud services, all of which are provided with the support of a truly local team. This expansion also will allow Cleveland-area business customers to utilize the enterprise-class data, voice, network and cloud services that Windstream customers in other major markets use as the foundation of their technology strategy.

"The Great Lakes region has experienced some economic challenges over the past few years, but today business leaders in Ohio are forecasting increases in revenues and employment, as well as expressing stronger confidence overall in the economy," said Bill Novak, director of IT at the CPA and business consulting firm Meaden & Moore. "To realize and even accelerate those positive sentiments, we need companies such as Windstream to invest in our local infrastructure. Windstream's willingness to bet on Cleveland and increase its fiber footprint here will deliver tangible results to all businesses in our area."

In addition to expanding service in the Central Business District, Berea and Beachwood areas, Windstream's expansion will also benefit the Lakewood, River Oak, West Lake, North Olmstead, Brookpark, Parma, Independence, Maple Heights, Shaker Heights, Mayfield Heights, Willoughby and Euclid areas.

Windstream is expanding its local metro fiber and fixed wireless networks across the country as part of an initiative that will support customers in the banking, financial services, legal services, education, healthcare, government, hospitality and retail industries, among others. In addition to this expansion in Cleveland, Windstream is expanding its metro fiber networks in a number of other cities including Charlotte, Nashville, Richmond, Minneapolis, Atlanta, Chicago and Philadelphia.

Windstream offers a full suite of advanced network communications and technology solutions, including Network & Data, SD-WAN, Voice & Unified Communications, Network Security, Managed Services and Cloud Services. For more information, visit windstreambusiness.com.
